Jesse L. Martin as Joe
Joe (Jesse L. Martin) plans to plant evidence in DeVoe’s (Neil Sandilands) house in the new trailer for Season 4, episode 10 of the CW’s “The Flash.” The CW

Joe is willing to cross the line just to clear Barry’s name in Season 4, episode 10 of “The Flash.”

In a new trailer for the next installment of the CW series, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) are at the doorstep of DeVoe’s (Neil Sandilands) house when the private investigator asks the police detective about what exactly his plan is.

“You’re gonna plant evidence?” a shocked Ralph asks.

“It’s the right thing to do Ralph,” Joe replies. “Just open the door I’ll do the rest.”

At the end of Season 4, episode 9, Barry (Grant Gustin) found DeVoe’s lifeless body in his and Iris’ (Candice Patton) apartment. Although Barry knew right off the bat that he’s being framed for a murder he didn’t commit, the Scarlett Speedster decided not to run from the police after realizing that he needed to cooperate with the law so he wouldn’t bring his new wife and the rest of his family down with him. But as seen in the new trailer, Joe is firm about his decision to go against the law just to keep Barry out of prison.

While Barry declares that he’s innocent, the jury and the public aren’t convinced that he is. Someone advises him to testify against the person he believes is framing him, but Barry thinks it isn’t a good idea. “If I testify, I have to lie. I become exactly who they think I am,” Barry says.

“Then don’t lie. Tell everyone you’re The Flash,” replies Cecile (Danielle Nicolet), who serves as Barry’s lawyer.

Barry, however, doesn’t think that making his real identity public will solve the problem. “If everyone knew my secret, we would never be able to stop running,” Barry says.

While trailer and the synopsis for the next episode don’t reveal any detail about DeVoe’s next plan, the upcoming installment is expected to shed light on what The Enlightenment is. By the end of last episode, after DeVoe was reunited with his wife The Mechanic (Kim Engelbrecht) in his brand new body (Kendrick Sampson), he told her, “Let’s bring about The Enlightenment.” The show has dropped no hints or clues about The Enlightenment, but it seems that it’s The Thinker and The Mechanic’s ultimate objective.

“The Flash” Season 4, episode 10, titled “The Trial of the Flash,” airs on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Watch the new trailer for the episode below:
