Candice Patton as Iris

Although Iris (Candice Patton) could ultimately die at the hands of Savitar in Season 3 finale of “The Flash,” Patton admitted that it has been really incredible to play her character as of late.

“It’s been amazing,” Patton told The Hollywood Reporter when asked about her experience portraying Iris in what appears to be her biggest season yet. “It’s really nice this season to finally see Iris being a part of the narrative rather than just being a bystander in the narrative. It changes what I do as an actor on the show. It gives me a lot more to play with.”

Since Barry (Grant Gustin) saw Savitar murder Iris in the future, Patton said that it’s been “really cool” for her to watch her character “navigate all the levels of eventually dying, acting out being reckless, then having to be a pillar of strength for Barry and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale).” The actress added that viewers will also see Iris later in the season “coming to terms with the fact that she might actually die and preparing for that possible scenario.”

But does Patton know whether Iris will survive the season? In an interview with TV Insider earlier this month, Patton revealed that producers of the show haven’t said a single thing about how Season 3 will end for Iris.

“No, they didn’t tell me,” Patton said when asked if she knows what lies ahead for her character. “I have no idea and it’s a little alarming. I think I know, but you never really know. I am just in the dark as the audience so it will be really interesting to see if Team Flash can pull it off. I’m hoping they can, because I need a job.”

Whether or not Iris will survive the season, Patton said that she would like to see Iris become more involved in trying to save her own life.

“Hopefully, we’ll see a version of Iris who gets the strength to be part of saving her own life, to be a part of the narrative that ensures her safety,” Patton said. “How cool would that be? She is a very capable woman, so how great would it be for a character like Iris, who has no superpowers, to be part of her own destiny?”

“The Flash” returns from its month-long hiatus with Season 3, episode 19, which airs on Tuesday, April 25 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
