The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is now available for the latest Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge models in the U.S. through major carriers. Galaxy S5 users are awaiting the Android 5.1.1 update as the Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware brought along various issues such as battery draining problems, frequent crashes and other bugs.

AT&T

According to Android Pit, AT&T was the last major U.S. carrier to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its Galaxy S5 users. However, as of this writing, there is no announcement from the carrier on rolling out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for Galaxy S5 owners.

Verizon

Verizon also is yet to launch the Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update. The last firmware update for Galaxy S5 users on Verizon allowed upgrading to the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with build number VRU1BNLC.

T-Mobile

At the end of June, T-Mobile started rolling out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for Galaxy S5 devices. The over-the-air update installs the build version G900TUVU1FOF6.

Along with bug fixes and overall stability improvements, it also brings support for RAW photography and lower ISO values. Currently, the camera app of the Galaxy S5 is unable to shoot RAW photos. In order to shoot RAW images, users are required to install a third-party camera app.

Sprint

Galaxy S5 users on Sprint also are waiting to update their devices to Android 5.1.1. On July 6, it had rolled out a patch for the Lollipop update with the build number G900PVPU3BOF6.

Android M Update

Samsung has not made any announcement on releasing the Android M Preview version for the Galaxy S5. Speculation is rife that the Android M OS will be launched officially in the third quarter of this year. Since the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge are the newest Samsung flagships, both devices are likely to receive the update first and then the Galaxy S5 may be offered the upgrade.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 that was launched in 2014 comes with a 5.1-inch full HD screen. It is powered with a Snapdragon 801 chipset along with 2 GB of RAM. The main camera of the device is 16 MP whereas the front-facing camera is of 2 MP. It is equipped with a battery of 2,800 mAh capacity.
