Gerard Butler, one of Hollywood's hottest hunks, has returned home in good health after completing a successful course of treatment for substance-abuse issue, his rep confirmed to People magazine.

Gerard has completed a successful course of treatment and has returned home in good health. We will not be making any further comment at this time, said the spokesperson.

The news came three weeks after the 42-year-old Scottish actor checked himself into the Betty Ford clinic when he realized that he was becoming reliant on prescription drugs after being badly injured in a surfing accident in December, TMZ reports.

He decided to enter rehab before getting addicted to the prescribed drugs.

Butler's issues started in 2006 when he was shooting for his 300 film. The pain got worse after he met with a surfing accident on the set of his film Of Men and Mavericks in California.

According to the TMZ report, the actor had also developed issues relating to cocaine, but his primary concern was the prescription drugs.

Butler spoke about his past struggles with alcohol. In an interview to The Red Bulletin, he said: I used to drink until I couldn't remember anything. I was just mad for it and on a death wish. It was madness. One or two drinks was never enough for me. I was a foot-on-the-floor-all-the-way-drinker, so it had to go. I don't miss it. Now it's as if I never had a drink in my life.
