SyFy is about take another bite out of the TV movie competition later this month by premiering their latest made-for-TV movie, "Ghost Shark." The science fiction film, which follows a small seaside town plagued by a shark that can attack both on land and in water, is set to premiere Aug. 22.

According to a film description from IMDB.com, the film chronicles the story of a mysterious Fourth of July shark attack that troubles a small town after a sea captain that is responsible for halting the murder, claims the sea creature is a ghost. In preparation for an upcoming July 4th celebration, the town turns to a ghost hunter to help discover the truth about the mysterious water beast. According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, the shark reportedly comes back from the dead to attack humans after being brutally murdered by a fisherman.

The horror film stars Mackenzie Rosman of “7th Heaven” fame as the films' lead, “Ava.” The 23-year-old actress recently made headlines after posing in lingerie for the popular men’s magazine, Maxim in July.

“Ghost Shark” is the second TV movie featuring sharks to premiere on SyFy in recent weeks. The network’s last film, “Sharknado,” gained notoriety online after featuring multiple campy kills. The films large cult following after its July air date even resulted in confirmation of a sequel set to premiere in 2014. “We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum,” Syfy executive vice president of programming, Thomas Vitale, said in a statement. The second installment will reportedly be called: “Sharknado 2: The Second One.”

The upcoming film "Ghost Shark" will also follow the controversial Discovery Channel documentary “Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives” that premiered earlier this month. Following the episode’s “Shark Week” debut, which garnered high ratings, many targeted the network for airing claims of Megalodon sightings, a shark that has been extinct for nearly two million years.

“Ghost Shark” premieres Thursday, Aug. 22 on SyFy at 9 p.m. ET.
