Where’s the beef?

Horsemeat has allegedly been found in burger products throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, but that’s not the only thing that was being found. Apparently gross percentages of pig meat were also being found, according to a recent food safety investigation.

So, where’s the beef? Seriously.

After a random check, Yahoo News reported Tuesday, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland revealed that tests conducted on salami, beef burger and beef meal products in retail stores had traces of animal products other than beef.

Horsemeat DNA was found in 37 percent, with pig DNA being found in an astounding 85 percent of products.

The multi-animal “beef” products were on sale at stores like Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Lidl, Aldi and Iceland.

FSAI's chief executive, Professor Alan Reilly, tried to downplay the horrifying discoveries by assuring the food supply is still safe and that horsemeat will not harm human health.

"Whilst there is a plausible explanation for the presence of pig DNA in these products due to the fact that meat from different animals is processed in the same meat plants, there is no clear explanation at this time for the presence of horse DNA in products emanating from meat plants that do not use horsemeat in their production process," he said in a statement.

Twitter users have taken the opportunity to stuff the mini blogosphere with quips about horsemeat being in burgers.

“A Good Wife will not feed her husband burgers this week till she is sure what is in them after watching the news #horsemeat,” @GoodWifesGuide tweeted.

“Hearing all this horsemeat news is very distressing .. Supermarkets are havin a 'mare' . #horseburgers,” @nickybyrneoffic posted.

@barrabest joked, “Brings a whole new meaning to the song 'horse it into ya Cynthia' Horsemeat found in beef burgers.”

@LibyaLiberty and @DiamondsIRL made similar quips:

“All in favor of going vegetarian say Neigh,” one user wrote, with another saying, “Are you in favour of #Horsemeat in your burgers? Yay or Neigh? #horseburgers”

“Surprised there was 29% of any kind of meat in a burger #horsemeat,” @TheMire_net wrote.
