Wes (Alfred Enoch) is slowly realizing that things aren't always as they seem. During Season 2, episode 12 of ABC's "How to Get Away With Murder" he and new confidant Laurel (Karla Souza) team up to learn the truth about his mother's death — and it's not at all what he was expecting.

After learning the ugly truth about boyfriend Frank (Charlie Webber) Laurel rushes to her safe place — Wes' apartment. She finds him pouring over the details of a mysterious file left on his doorstep by Annalise (Viola Davis) in episode 11 and begins to ask questions. Wes isn't sure who the hedge fund manager, who appears to be at the center of the case file, is but he knows he's somehow linked to his mother. Laurel suggests that they jet off to Ohio to gather more information on the case and books the trip — courtesy of her father. Once there they struggle to fine his mother's name in any of the transcripts and quickly deduce that she must have been an anonymous witness in the case. This fact is further confirmed by one of Annlise's flashbacks which shows the box-braid-clad and very pregnant attorney waiting on her star witness' testimony and being stood up.

Wes and Laurel try to dig deeper, as they believe the reason his mother failed to appear is that she was killed. They struggle to uncover more information, leaving their investigation at a standstill. The duo seek out records from a medical examiner, which suggest that Wes' mother's injuries were self inflicted. Laurel, however, knows otherwise. Upon arriving back at Annalise's home she reveals that she was able to snag a document from the case file which names Wes as the main suspect in his mother's death. She questions her professor about this detail and why she's been keeping this and much more information from him.

In addition to this bombshell, the Keating Five are still being stalked by Phillip (Jefferson White). After sending one incriminating video from the night of Annlise's shooting, which he threatened to send to the police if his demand were not met, Phillip strikes again. He sends the group another video, this time of Annalise and Nate (Billy Brown) in her home the night before. This shakes the entire group who had previously believed they had handled the situation by ignoring his emails.

Could Wes have killed his own mother? Tune in next Thursday at 10 p.m. EST on ABC to find out.
