A Pasadena City College professor who became famous throughout the Internet for his “male feminist” teachings engaged in a Twitter meltdown last Friday in which he called himself a "hypocrite" and admitted to having an affair with a porn star.

Hugo Schwyzer, a professor who gained national attention by teaching classes on porn and male feminism, entered a self-imposed Twitter hiatus earlier this month after being accused of having affairs with a 23-year-old woman and porn star Christina Parreira, the Daily Mail reports. However, Schwyzer returned to the social media site on Friday and engaged in an hour-long Twitter meltdown, decrying himself as a “hypocrite” and questioning his own qualifications as a teacher.

During the Twitter meltdown, Schwyzer revealed to followers that he was going through a “manic episode” and that he suffers from bipolar disorder. “So the real story you all missed is that I talked my way into teaching women’s studies on the basis of 2 undergrad courses only,” Schwyzer wrote.

“My expertise is British medieval church history. I had no business teaching feminism, however well I may have taught it,” Schwyzer continued. “I then built a career as a well-known online male feminist on fraudulent pretenses. My mania let me talk a good game.”

Schwyzer also addressed his alleged affair with Parreira, a 27-year-old porn star, as well as an unnamed 23-year-old woman. “I f----ed porn stars I met through classes. I cheated on my wife and pretended to be reformed. I wrote an article in the Atlantic condemning age-disparate relationships the same week that I was sleeping with a 23-year-old. And sexting a 27-year-old. Not my students at least,” Schwyzer wrote during the Twitter meltdown. “I’m a monstrous hypocrite.”

Earlier this month, the married father of two announced that he would take a leave of absence from Pasadena City College after a series of “sexts” between himself and Parreira were leaked to the public. In one exchange, Schwyzer and Parreira allegedly discussed a fantasy of having a “threesome” with porn star James Deen, the New York Daily News reports.

“I had a bi-polar breakdown. That’s an explanation, not an excuse,” Schwyzer told the Daily News regarding his Twitter meltdown. “And I knew I should have been in therapy and on my meds.”

In a Tuesday interview with the Daily Beast, Schwyzer declined that he was suicidal and explained the motivations behind his alleged misdeeds. “For me the motivation was not to get these girls into bed. Sex is only the exclamation point on what you really want,” he said. “What I am addicted to is affirmation and validation from women. ... What mattered to me is that they had me on a pedestal, that they thought about me. That is the honest truth.”

Despite Schwyzer’s announcement, Pasadena City College spokesperson Juan Gutierrez claimed that the university was not aware of the professor’s planned medical leave. “We have not received any direct indication that professor Schwyzer will not be at PCC in the fall.”
