If you are an owner of the Sprint variant of Samsung Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) and want to experience Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean on your device, you’ve got the luck on your side as a few customs ROMs based on the new firmware are available at your service.

Custom ROMs – Slim Bean and CyanogenMod10.1 – that allow you to install Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean on your Sprint Galaxy S3 have already been discussed. Now here’s another custom ROM, LiquidSmooth, which can perform the same on your device. In case you are yet to update your Galaxy S3 to Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, you can try this out.

The custom firmware in question called LiquidSmooth Beta 2 is known for offering a smooth, stable and fast ROM. However, it is still under development and therefore the users are likely to encounter some issues and bugs. All the issues are expected to be resolved as development progresses, according to Android Jinn.

A tutorial explaining the process of installing the latest firmware on Sprint Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) using LiquidSmooth Beta 2 ROM is given below. But before trying out the steps, there are certain vital aspects to keep in mind.

- Backup your data and apps, so that you can recover them if you happen to lose any.

- Make sure that the device has at least 80 percent battery power.

- Make sure that USB driver is installed for Samsung Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) in your PC.

- Make sure that USB Debugging is enabled.

- Backup your EFS Folder.

- The device must be rooted and have ClockworkMod Recovery Installed.

- Flashing this ROM on Galaxy S3 L710 will increase your binary counter.

- Don’t skip Nandroid backup as it’s very helpful if this custom ROM doesn’t work the way you wanted.

It must be noted that this tutorial is meant only for the Sprint variant of Samsung Galaxy S3. Therefore, it should not be executed on any other Android devices. In addition, IBTimes cannot be held responsible if anything goes wrong. The users should proceed at their own risk.

Procedure

Step 1: Download LiquidSmooth Beta 2 4.2.1 Jelly Bean ROM For Galaxy S3 L710 [Filename: Liquid-JB-v2.1-Beta2-d2spr.zip]

Step 2: Download Google Apps [Filename: gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip]

Step 3: Now connect your Sprint Galaxy S3 to a PC using USB cable.

Step 4: Copy downloaded files to the SD card of your phone. But don’t extract them.

Step 5: Disconnect the USB and power off your phone.

Step 6: Boot into ClockworkMod recovery in your Galaxy S3 by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons together until the Samsung logo appears on screen.

Step 7: Release the buttons and hold them again. You will get ClockworkMod recovery screen soon. Now browse between options in recovery using Volume keys while using Power key to select an option.

Step 8: Perform a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM by selecting Backup and Restore, then on the next screen, selecting Backup again. Once back up is complete, go back to the main recovery menu.

Step 9: Now perform the data wiping task. To do so, select the wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm your action. Wait for a few minutes till the data wipe is completed.

Step 10: Select install zip from the SD card, then select choose zip from the SD card. After that, locate the Liquid-JB-v2.1-Beta2-d2spr.zip file and select it by pressing Power button (tap on it if using touch version).

Confirm installation by selecting Yes – Install _____.zip on the next screen. The ROM installation will begin.

Step 11: Once the ROM installation is done, repeat the step 10 but choose the gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip file instead of ROM zip to install the Google apps package.

Step 12: After the installation is completed, go back to the main recovery menu and select Reboot System Now to reboot the phone and boot up into customized Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean ROM LiquidSmooth Beta 2. The first boot will take time.
