A bomb exploded in Jerusalem, Israel today, injuring 39 people and killing a 60-year-old woman.

The incident happened near a bus stop outside the Jerusalem Conference Center. The explosive was hidden in a bag left by the perpetrator and then detonated remotely or by a timer. Although no one has claimed credit for the attack, Israeli police believe it was the work of Palestinian militants, according to ABC News. This was the first terrorist attack involving detonating explosives in four years, according to Israeli police.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat called the incident a “cowardly terrorist attack,” reported the Jerusalem Post. Moreover, he is confident the perpetrator will be caught, as 99 percent of the terrorists in such cases are eventually found.

In the aftermath of the explosion, medics rushed to attend to the injured, who were taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem, Hadassah Mount Scopus, Bikur Holim and Shaare Tzedek hospitals, reported the Jerusalem Post. Meanwhile, police and explosive experts are surveying the scene of the explosion.
