Katy Perry never officially confirmed her relationship with DJ Diplo, but the “Birthday” singer's rumored beau has already called off their short-lived romance, according to some reports.
According to a report from In Touch Weekly, Diplo (real name: Thomas Wesley Pentz) recently parted ways with Perry, 29, just four weeks after the couple’s first public outing at the 2014 Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival in April. While one “insider” claims the pop star was “really into” the 35-year-old producer and DJ, the tabloid is reporting that Perry was dumped by him.
So what was the reason for the sudden split? According to sources, Diplo called his romance with Perry quits after the “I Kissed a Girl” performer revealed little interest in taking their relationship further. “Diplo broke up with her because she does not want to be in a serious relationship,” said one insider.
According to sources close to Perry, she wasn’t interested in going too far, too fast with the DJ following her split from singer John Mayer in February. “She freaked out when he wanted to introduce her to his parents. She doesn’t want to get married again — at least not anytime soon,” said one source. “She wants to date and he wanted something much more serious. It was too much, too soon.”
While Perry may have been dumped by her latest, the singer’s pals claim that she believes the breakup was “fair” due to the pair’s equally busy schedules and is feeling fine post-split. “She’s doing OK and not too sad about it,” said an insider. “They wanted different things.”
The couple, who has kept their relationship on the down-low through its four-week span, was first spotted together attending the 2014 Coachella Valley and Music Festival in Indio, California, on April 12. Following their festival romp, People Magazine reported that the duo allegedly engaged in PDA at Skylight’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” after party in New York April 24. “They were very affectionate, very lovey-dovey,” an eyewitness told the magazine.
Perry was last rumored to be dating “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson following her split from her on-again, off-again boyfriend of two years, “Your Body Is a Wonderland" singer John Mayer, in February. The couple, who reunited in September after a brief four-week separation, reportedly parted ways due to work-related issues.
The singer was previously wed to British comedian-actor Russell Brand, 38. The couple announced their divorce in 2011 after less than two years.
