Just days ago the world was questioning whether pop diva Katy Perry, and her singing beau, John Mayer, were prepping to tie the knot. Sadly for fans of the A-list pair, E! News reported Wednesday that the couple have called their on-again, off-again relationship of two years quits.

According to the report, a source close to the pair revealed that Perry, 29, broke up with the “Your Body Is a Wonderland” performer, with the insider claiming that the split occurred “within the last few days.” While no other details surrounding the couple’s alleged split have since been revealed, E! News did point out that Mayer, 36, was noticeably absent during Perry’s recent trip overseas to London and Milan.

So why did the singing twosome call it quits? While the cause of their alleged breakup is currently unknown, the pair have been noticeably silent regarding their romance on Twitter in recent days, Perry only tweeting about her Prismatic world tour’s upcoming stop in Australia and Mayer posting his usual quips.

Just days prior to the breakup rumors, multiple outlets reported that the singing twosome, who recently starred alongside one another in the music video “Who You Love,” were engaged. According to reports, Perry was photographed wearing a sparkler on her engagement finger while out and about with Mayer in Los Angeles on Valentine’s Day, an accessory which many concluded was the result of a marriage proposal from her singing beau. Despite the interesting jewelry placement, a source confirmed to E! News that the duo was not prepping to tie the knot.

If the breakup rumors are true, this will make it the third time Perry and Mayer have called their relationship quits. Most recently, last March, the couple took a breather after several months of dating, an inside source citing work-related issues as the cause for their romance’s termination. The couple first met and began dating in the summer of 2012.
