The “Fifty Shades of Grey” movies officially have their Mrs. Robinson. It was announced Wednesday night that veteran actress Kim Basinger will be taking on the role of sexy seductress Elena Lincoln in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” sequels.

While Basinger, 62, has yet to speak out about her role in “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed,” the series’ author has commented on the casting update. Before it was revealed that Basinger would be starring in the 2017 follow-up, E.L. James teased her readers with “news.”

James shortly after revealed that Basinger, who is best known for her Oscar-winning role in 1998’s “L.A. Confidential,” would be playing the highly anticipated character onscreen.

Basinger’s 20-year-old daughter, whom she shares with ex-husband Alec Baldwin, model Ireland Baldwin, has also commented on her mother’s upcoming role.

Basinger’s character was first introduced in 2015’s “Fifty Shades of Grey,” but was not shown on-camera. In one scene, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) revealed he had a BDSM relationship with Elena, who was one of his mother’s friends, as a teenager, much to his current lover Ana Steele’s (Dakota Johnson) dismay. Ana is the one who gives Elena the nickname “Mrs. Robinson.” In the “Darker” book, Elena is also revealed to be Christian’s business partner.

The Directors Guild of Canada, BC District Council’s production list revealed earlier this month that “Further Adventures of Max & Banks,” which is the “Fifty Shades” series’ working title, will kick off production Tuesday, Feb. 9, with filming due to wrap up in July. Variety reports "Darker" will begin shooting in the spring. Previous reports have indicated that “Fifty Shades Darker” and the final film in the trilogy, “Fifty Shades Freed,” will shoot back-to-back.

“Fifty Shades Darker” is due for a Feb. 10, 2017 release. “Fifty Shades Freed” will premiere in February 2018.
