  • Liverpool continue to be without Matip, Keita, and Alcantara
  • Liverpool kickstarted their UCL campaign with a 1-0 win over Ajax
  • The Reds are set to host Midtjylland at Anfield Tuesday night

Liverpool FC’s miseries on the injury front continue as The Reds will have to play without the trio -- Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, and Joel Matip, in Tuesday night’s Champions League encounter against Midtjylland.

Matip and Alcantara last played for The Reds in the Merseyside derby Oct. 17, while Keita’s last appearance came in Liverpool’s 7-2 loss against Aston Villa Oct. 4, a match where the Guinean midfielder had started.

In a press conference, on the eve of Liverpool’s game against Midtjylland, Jurgen Klopp was asked if any of the injured players would recover in time for the Champions League fixture.

"I don’t think so. It’s still what I said last week, we look day by day. It looks like we will need a few more days. For tomorrow night, they probably will not be ready," Klopp was quoted by Goal, as saying.

Klopp’s side is already without their key defender Virgil van Dijk, who is expected to be out for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury during Liverpool’s Premier League match against Everton at the Goodison Park.

Liverpool kickstarted their 2020-21 Champions League campaign with a 1-0 win over Ajax in Amsterdam despite injuries, and it looks like, Klopp will once again have to shuffle his options ahead of their home game against the Danish club.

Liverpool’s previous match was the Premier League home match against Sheffield United, where no Reds' player picked up any injury, while Klopp’s side secured a 2-1 win as well. On Sunday, Sheffield went 1-0 up after scoring via penalty. Roberto Firmino netted Liverpool’s equalizer before Diogo Jota struck the 64th-minute winner.

In the same press conference, when Klopp was asked about fresh injuries in the Liverpool camp, the German manager explained, "Not as far as I know, nobody told me yet. I don’t know exactly. It’s probable that no-one will be added to the squad, but we didn’t lose anybody as well."

Against Sheffield United at Anfield, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum played in the heart of Liverpool’s midfield, while Brazilian defensive midfielder Fabinho was behind as van Dijk’s center-back cover.

Liverpool’s depth, in case of more injuries, features the likes of James Milner, Takumi Minamino, and Xherdan Shaqiri on the bench as seasoned substitutes.
