The Marvel comics mashup kicked off the summer movie season with a $200.3 million opening weekend.

The opening weekend is now the biggest domestic debut ever, according to the Associated Press.

If Disney's estimates pan out the way it says it will, by Monday, The Avengers would be the first movie ever to haul in $200 million in a single weekend.

Insiders are raving about The Avengers opening weekend, as the $200 million debut is said to redefine the standards for a blockbuster release.

The Marvel movie beat out the previous record of $169.2 million for the debut of last year's Harry Potter finale.

Nick Fury and the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D. climbed to a worldwide total of $641.8 million, with $441.5 million overseas since last week
