“Nashville” Season 3 episode 6 is going to force plenty of characters to make decisions about their lives. In episode 5, Avery (Jonathan Jackson) learned that he was about to be a father, while Gunnar (Sam Palladio) learned that he fathered a child a decade ago. Both will have to decide if they’re ready to be fathers—if their baby mamas are willing to let them in their kids’ lives.

Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) will have a change of heart after "a health scare," according to the episode 6 synopsis. She’ll be okay after passing out during a performance, but she’ll finally see that the baby might need another parent. She’ll ask Avery to be part of her life, but Avery was struggling with deciding if he wanted to do that last week. The promo makes it look like Noah’s (Derek Hough) presence might push Avery away.

Gunnar won’t know what to do about his sudden fatherhood. After Kylie (Alexa PenaVega) revealed that he is Mika’s father, he’ll turn to Scarlett (Clare Bowen) for advice. However, Scarlett will be a little busy. Terry (Mykelti Williamson), the homeless man she met, isn’t going to go away. After he finished her lyrics in return for a sandwich in episode 5, Scarlett might find herself writing with him more.

Scarlett’s uncle, Deacon (Charles Esten), is busy making different kinds of connections. He still seems to be content with Pam (Brette Taylor), and she will be working to make Deacon less grumpy. The episode synopsis states that he “finds his purpose in music” again with his new girlfriend’s help.

Rayna (Connie Britton) is still too busy to notice her ex fooling around with her fiancé Luke’s (Will Chase) backup singer. Her hectic career will continue when she is nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Awards. This year she isn’t fighting Juliette Barnes for an award. She is nominated against Luke, and that could cause some tension between the two of them. (The real CMAs will actually preempt “Nashville” on Nov. 5.)

Rayna might not have time to care too much about awards though. While Luke is planning a duet with Sara Evans before the awards show, Rayna will have to deal with her kids misbehaving. Teddy (Eric Close) might not know the balance between cool dad and strict parent, and Rayna is finding it hard to be a long distance parent.

“Nashville” Season 3 episode 6, titled “Nobody Said It Was Going To Be Easy,” will air Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
