The lack of interest from NBA teams to sign Carmelo Anthony is quickly becoming a daily talking point with many coming out in support of the 10-time All-Star, who is desperate to play one final season in the NBA before calling time on his career. But no team has thus far shown any genuine interest to sign Anthony, which according to many experts and former players is baffling.

The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers were initially said to be interested in signing the forward but have since cooled their interest and have looked elsewhere for players to fill their roster. The Lakers, who lost DeMarcus Cousins to a long-term injury recently, went on to sign veteran center Dwight Howard and former NBA player Charles Oakley believes it is “embarrassing” for Anthony that the former was signed before him.

Anthony has made it clear that he is ready to play one more season with his trainer even claiming that he is better than 60 percent of the players currently signed up in the NBA. Despite his pleas, there are no teams coming forward to make the forward an offer thus far.

While Oakley, who was an All-Star in 1994, believes Anthony should never have left the Knicks as he is certain that his former team would have given the forward a new deal. He also feels the 35-year-old should not fret if no team comes forward as he can be proud of his basketball career.

"Carmelo should've never left New York," Oakley told TMZ Sports. "I think if he'd have stayed in New York, he probably would've gotten a new contract and maybe the Knicks would've made the playoffs the last couple years."

"I wish him all the love, but Melo's gotta realize that he had a great career. Don't sweat the people. You played the game at a high level, and leave on that level. Don't just want to be on a team because you want to be on a team,” the Knicks legend added.

However, there is plenty of time for teams to make a move for the forward and one could come sooner rather than later. A recent report suggested Brooklyn Nets’ newest superstar signings Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving have been pushing the franchise to sign Anthony and with small forward Wilson Chandler recently being handed a 25 game suspension, there is a possibility the Nets offer Anthony a short-term deal.
