On Tuesday president-elect Barack Obama broke his silence and expressed deep concern about the loss of civilian lives in Gaza and in Israel.

Obama spoke out following the death of at least 40 Palestinians at a U.N. school where they sought for shelter.

The loss of civilian life in Gaza and Israel is a source of deep concern for me, he told reporters.

Obama is expected to speak out more following his inauguration on January 20.
