  • Olivia Wilde is struggling to stay mum about her upcoming Marvel project
  • Wilde is honored to be one of the female filmmakers who are reframing stories for the public to see
  • This will be Wilde's second movie as a director

Olivia Wilde recently entered the list of elite filmmakers who are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, she is finding it difficult to keep quiet about her upcoming project and is struggling to uphold Marvel’s spoiler policy.

While making an appearance in the “Shut Up Evan” podcast, the 36-year-old actress-turned-director opened up a little bit about the secret Marvel project that she is going to helm and revealed that this is the “most exciting” thing that has ever happened in her life, so she’s struggling to keep it a secret, CinemaBlend reported.

“All I can say that this is by far the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me. Because not only do I feel like I get to tell a story that, God, it's like, listen to me trying to avoid Kevin Feige's pellet gun,” Wilde said during the interview.

Later in the discussion, the “Booksmart” helmer also explained how proud she is to join the list of filmmakers who are not only telling the stories like men do, but are also reframing the stories to make them even better.

“I am just honored to be amongst this wave of women who are showing up and saying, 'We are not only going to step in and try and tell this story as men do, we are actually going to reframe the stories themselves,” CinemaBlend quoted Wilde, as saying.

Last month, it was revealed that Wilde has signed a deal with Sony Pictures to helm a Marvel movie about a female superhero. Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor will serve as producers for the project, Deadline reported.

This would be the second female character-driven movie in Sony’s universe of Marvel characters. In May 2020, it was reported that SJ Clarkson was tapped to develop a “first female-centric movie” for Sony’s Marvel universe.

Wilde directed her first feature film in 2019. Entitled “Booksmart,” the movie garnered universal acclaim and numerous nominations, including a Best Original Screenplay nomination at the BAFTAs.

The film, starring Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, and Lisa Kudrow in pivotal roles, currently holds a score of 96% on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.
