OnePlus 3T
A new leak suggests that the OnePlus 5 will have its fingerprint sensor up front similar to the OnePlus 3T. OnePlus

Alleged specifications for the OnePlus 5 have leaked online seemingly confirming and rebutting some of the previous rumors about the upcoming device. The leaker shared the information on the Chinese social media site Weibo, and its authenticity is still uncertain.

The Weibo leaker, named Kumamoto Technology, claims that all rumors including renders of the OnePlus 5 showing a vertical dual-camera setup are false. The leakers says that the OnePlus 5 will indeed have a dual-camera setup, but it will be placed horizontally on the handset similar to how the cameras are placed on the Apple iPhone 7 Plus.

There’s a lot of hype for smartphones that have little to no bezels. LG’s G6 and Samsung’s Galaxy S8 have proven that it’s possible and that it creates a beautiful phone. However, Kumamoto Technology claims that the OnePlus 5 won’t have an all-screen design or an edge-to-edge display because the fingerprint sensor will still be located up front.

Both the LG G6 and the Galaxy S8 have their fingerprint sensor on their backs to accommodate the all-screen design. Samsung’s originally planned to embed the fingerprint sensor underneath the Galaxy S8’s display, but it wasn’t able to do so. The leaker claims the OnePlus 5 fingerprint scanner will be placed right in the same place where it’s located on the OnePlus 3T, according to BGR.

At this point, most are convinced the OnePlus 5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor. However, RAM size has heavily been debated. Some have speculated that the upcoming flagship will feature whopping 8GB RAM, while others believe that OnePlus will be sticking with 6GB. The Weibo leaker says that it will be the latter but OnePlus could still release an 8GB RAM model in the future.

As for storage, Kumamoto Technology says that it will have 128GB of storage. This is in line with previous rumors and speculations about the OnePlus 5. The leaker added that a 258GB isn’t out of the question, and that it might be for the 8GB RAM version of the OnePlus 5.

Battery size of the OnePlus 5 is said to be 3,600 mAh and not 3,000 mAh as previously suggested. This is slightly bigger than the OnePlus 3T’s 3,400 mAh battery but it should mean substantial improvement in battery life. The leaker also said that OnePlus’s fast charging technology Dash Charge will also be improved by 25% in terms of charging time, according to Phone Arena.

Lastly, the Weibo leaker can’t confirm if the OnePlus 5 will have a 3.5mm headphone jack. We’re already seeing that some phone makers are already ditching the headphone jack in favor of USB-C or wireless solutions like Bluetooth, and OnePlus could jump on board to do the same.

None of these specs have been confirmed by OnePlus itself and should be taken with considerable amounts of skepticism. However, an official announcement doesn’t seem too far off. A separate Weibo leaker found by My Drivers says that the OnePlus 5 should launch by the end of June. The leaker also claimed that the handset will come with a 5.5-inch 1080p full HD display.

OnePlus recently posted a teaser photo confirming the existence of the successor to the OnePlus 3T, and OnePlus CEO Pete Lau also shared the same image on his own Weibo page as well.

[UPDATE: May 6, 2017] OnePlus has confirmed to The Verge that the OnePlus 5 release date is slated for Summer 2017.
