Blizzard Entertainment released an origin story video featuring their new "Overwatch" character, Baptiste. Apparently, the new hero is supposed to be a “cmbat medic” armed with a grenade launcher. Here’s what we know about the new character.

As seen on the official trailer, Baptiste was one of the orphaned Haitian children after the Omnic Crisis. To survive, Baptiste turned to mercenary work as a combat medic while helping those who assisted him even when they may be up to no good. However, he seemed to have taken work for the criminal organization Talon as a grunt and seemingly inflicted the same situation he had gone through on other children in one of his missions.

Turning over a new page, Baptiste seemed to have a change of heart and left Talon, after which he was promptly hunted down. He could either choose to return to his duties or be killed. However, it seems he was victorious and managed to nab the Talon operatives after him.

So far, none of his gameplay has been revealed and the official "Overwatch" site has yet to put his entry on the heroes list.

In the trailer, Baptiste seems to be using a futuristic gun, which looks like a grenade launcher. Moreover, his features of dealing damage and healing may potentially make him a support character. So far, combative and supportive characters in "Overwatch" are already available as Soldier 76’s rifle and healing field and Ana’s healing and hurting sniper shots currently fill this role.

Potentially, Baptiste may strike more on the offensive role even as a support due to the size and shape of his gun. In addition, “offensive supports” often have a utility-based ultimate rather than being relied on to wipe out the team on their own. Following his trailer, we’ve yet to know when he’ll be included in the game or in its public test servers.

For now, we’ll have to wait if Baptiste will indeed be played as a combat medic once he comes out. Many players often find ways to use a character outside of what developers designed him to be.
