Cinephiles are hungry for a look at Sony Pictures Entertainment’s “Passengers.” With just over three months until its theater debut, the studio has yet to release much about the highly anticipated sci-fi film. While the trailer was revealed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April, the public has not been given a glimpse of the drama in store for Jennifer Lawrence’s and Chris Pratt’s characters in the romantic thriller.
For those who can’t wait for the movie’s December debut, let’s take a look at everything we know about the movie so far:
Plot — A spacecraft designed to keep its passengers asleep for over a century before reaching its destination malfunctions, and two passengers find themselves awake and alone for decades. While they find solace in each other’s company, a second ship malfunction puts all of the passengers at risk, leaving only the two awake to seek help.
Characters — The film will focus on two central characters: Chris Pratt’s Jim and Jennifer Lawrence’s Aurora. Jim is described as a mechanic whose talents are “obsolete.” Lawrence’s character is more affluent, an “intellectual” writer from New York who boards the Starship Avalon with a much more expensive ticket than Jim.
Posters — With Jim and Aurora being the film’s two main characters, they are, of course, the stars of the film’s posters. So far, promo pictures for “Passengers” have only zeroed in on closeups of the actor’s faces. The studio also released a few exclusive set photos to Entertainment Weekly last month, which also starred Lawrence and Pratt.

Trailer Release Date — Rumors circulated on social media last month that Sony was prepping to release the trailer for “Passengers,” though the speculated dates came and went with no premiere. IBT reached out to Sony for comment, but the studio did not respond by press time.
Kissing Scene — While fans anxiously await the trailer, they can have some peace of mind knowing it’s worth the wait! IBT was present for Sony’s CinemaCon presentation this spring and witnessed the first footage from the film. One scene in particular, a steamy kissing sequence between Pratt and Lawrence, is sure to get fans buzzing! Check out a full rundown of the trailer HERE.
Review — Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman Tom Rothman had nothing but kind things to say about Pratt and Lawrence’s performances at CinemaCon. “They are sexy as hell together,” he shared before specifically addressing Lawrence’s abilities. “In 30 years of riding the celluloid trail, I have never seen an actress of such strength.”
Director Morten Tyldum had an equally positive review of the actors last month, calling the film this generation’s love story. “You will laugh and cry and hold your breath and be at the edge of your seat. It has chills. It also will make you smile and laugh a lot. We wanted a playful movie,” Tyldum told EW. “In this day of sequels and reboots I think it’s refreshing that it is a completely original story with two of the best movie stars in the world. I’m very, very happy with the movie.”
“Passengers” lands in theaters Dec. 21.
