With the Oscar awards just round the corner, high-end women's wear label Marchesa has provided stars and fashionistas an opportunity to select from their elaborate red-carpet creations displayed at the 2012 New York Fashion Week.

Renowned fashion designers, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig have left no stones unturned to create the perfect A-lister creations for their Fall/Winter 2012 collection.

From strapless feathered dresses to captivating taffeta ball skirt, the collection was all about luxury, high fashion and the red carpet.

The Associated Press reported that the designers drew their inspiration from a portrait painting from 1879: William Adolphe Bourgueraus' A Soul Brought to Heaven.

They had to show a picture of it to have it all make sense, but once the first gown appeared on the runway - a cream-colored, hand-embroidered coat with mermaid-hem pleated tulle gown - the crowd seemed captivated.

Couture collections by Marchesa are often selected by celebrities for high profile and red carpet events. The brand has been worn by a number of Hollywood actresses on the red carpet including Penelope Cruz, Selena Gomez, Halle Berry, Leighton Meester, Rihanna and Eva Longoria. In fact, actress Sandra Bullock was named among the best dressed at the 2010 Academy Awards when she wore a Marchesa creation.
