Rihanna breaks down to Oprah when asked about her 2009 assault Instagram/Rihanna

Weeks after reality star Kim Kardashian appeared in a tell-all Interview with Oprah Winfrey on "Next Chapter," Rihanna is set to sit down with the veteran talk show host.

In a preview clip, Oprah discusses the 2009 assault in which Rihanna's then-boyfriend, singer Chris Brown, attacked her and gave her a black eye and swollen lip, among other physical injuries.

"It was embarrassing, it was humiliating. I lost my best friend," Rihanna says, with tears in her eyes, when asked about the altercation and her relationship status with Brown.

After the attack on the Barbadian beauty, Oprah dedicated an entire episode of her show towards discussing the impact of domestic violence. The singer did not make an appearance for the episode.

"Give it some time ... heal yourself first... love doesn't hurt and if a man hits you once he will hit you again. I don't care what his plea is," Oprah said on her show as a message for other women who may be in abusive relationships.

Oprah is certainly not afraid to discuss sensitive topics, which is why she has become such a notable talk show host, in part. In her interview with Kardashian, for example, she asked the question that was on everyone's mind: Is her relationship with rapper Kanye West a publicity stunt?

"It's your heart you're playing with. I couldn't sacrifice my heart for a publicity stunt," Kardashian replied.

Since Rihanna's assault, there have been numerous rumors that the former lovers have gotten back together. According to the New York Post, the two former lovers have been "seeing a lot of each other in private," sources said, though Brown has a new girlfriend, Karrueche Tran.

Earlier this year, Rihanna and Chris Brown even collaborated on one another's singles.

"Everyone in the business assumes she and Chris are getting back together, and it is only a matter of time before they'll be more public about it," one source said to the Post. "It's like she's testing the water-first they work on music together, then they hang out in a friendly way, so the public won't be completely shocked when they step out together publicly."

Oprah's interview with Rihanna is set to air Aug. 19 at 9 p.m. on OWN.
