Salem
“Salem” Season 3 premieres on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 9 p.m. EDT on WGN America. WGN America

Heathens, WGN America’s TV show “Salem” will soon premiere its third season after an agonizingly long wait. Last season ended with the death of Countess von Marburg and Mary Sibley. The latter gave her life in order to save the love of her life, John Alden.

Season 3 kicks off right where we left off with Mary (Janet Montgomery) still buried six feet under. Here are the five crucial questions we want answered in next week’s highly anticipated season premiere:

1. How Will Mary Be Resurrected?

Obviously, the female lead of “Salem” isn’t going to stay dead for long. However, raising the dead isn’t a feat any witch can undertake without giving another life in return. Remember how Mary sacrificed her life in order to save Alden’s (Shane West)? You need to give some to get some.

2. How Will They Stop The Devil?

The Season 3, episode 1 synopsis states that only Mary, the witch that birthed the devil (Oliver Bell), can stop him. But it remains to be seen how she will undergo such a task. After all, the fallen angel isn’t a being you can just kill. Even for a powerful witch like Mary, it will prove to be herculean task.

3. Will Countess Marburg Return?

Lucy Lawless’ superb portrayal of the powerful and evil Countess von Marburg was applauded by fans all over the world. She was stabbed multiple times by the devil. It seemed like she’s died but “Salem” fans may recall that the witch has lived on Earth for centuries. Her carcass is still there. We’d love to see Lawless reprise her role as the devil worshipping sorceress.

4. Is Cotton Going To Be The Next George Sibley?

Poor Cotton Mather (Seth Gabel). Unbeknownst to the priest, he married a witch – Anne Hale (Tamzin Merchant). When he realized the truth, Anne stuffed her rat familiar, Brown Jenkins, down his throat. Mary used the same method to control her husband George before his demise.

Will Cotton suffer the same fate or will “Salem” Season 3 change his destiny?

5. What’s Mercy Up To?

If there’s one witch who has truly gone off the rails, it’s Mercy Lewis (Elise Eberle). She needs the blood of young girls to survive and something tells us she will find a way to procure it without attracting too much attention.
