Samsung is said to have postponed the Galaxy Fold unveiling in China next week. While the company has yet to confirm the reason, the recent reviews of the Galaxy Fold turned from good to bad after the phone’s durability was easily compromised. Here’s what we know about this development.

According to Engadget’s Richard Lai, Samsung has postponed the Galaxy Fold reveal in Hong Kong and Shanghai that was originally scheduled for April 23 and 24. The company has yet to officially announce the reason for the delay. The Samsung Galaxy Fold is the first “foldable display” device from the company to be introduced to the public.

Over the past week, reviewers have praised Samsung for the device’s quality and usability. However, the durability of the new device was compromised a few days after the reviews.

The screens were inoperable after reviewers peeled off the device’s 7.3-inch interior screen bendable plastic sheet. Moreover, another reviewer noticed that the left side of the Galaxy Fold flickered and stopped operating normally after debris got in it.

Due to the issues arising with the Galaxy Fold, many critics claimed that this device may experience a similar fate as the Galaxy Note 7. Previously, the battery problems with the Galaxy Note 7 were so severe that the device had a potential to explode, making them very dangerous for consumers. Samsung had to pull out the whole device line and make amends with the Note 8 iteration of the device.

While Samsung has successfully recovered from that debacle, the Galaxy Fold is in danger as it can compromise their standing in the race. The company is currently sharing the lead with Huawei in developing foldable display devices as other Android companies are still planning their own. If this device flunks, Samsung will have to work hard for the next version of the Galaxy Fold.

Meanwhile, Samsung has yet to announce the status of the US reveal of the device this coming April 26. We’ll have to wait for further announcements to find out what will happen to the Galaxy Fold now.
