Samsung (KRX:005935) is expected to announce its highly-anticipated Galaxy Note 3 smartphone and the "Samsung Gear" smart watch at a special media event on Sept. 4 in Berlin, according to a report in the Korean media.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3, the successor to the current Galaxy Note 2, was previously rumored to be released at the IFA 2013, one of the leading trade shows for consumer electronics and home appliances, which is scheduled to take place in Berlin from Sept. 6 to Sept. 11. Now, the new rumored release date for the Galaxy Note 3 is set two days before the event kicks off.

According to the report from Asiae.co.kr, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could feature a 5.7-inch AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM and the Exynos 5 Octa processor for some models of the device. Earlier rumors suggested that the smartphone could also feature a 13-megapixel camera, the new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor for some models.

The report said that the release of the Galaxy Note 3 could be accompanied by the introduction of Samsung’s new smart watch, dubbed the “Samsung Gear”, which is expected to have similar functionality to that of Sony’s (NYSE:SNE) smart watch. Rumors suggest that Samsung wants to release its smart watch before Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) rumored “iWatch” hits the market.

Rumors about Samsung’s fabled smart watch have been around for quite some time now. Last month, a set of trademark filings by Samsung was leaked online, providing details about an electronic device with its various software aspects. One of the documents even included terms that could be related to a smart watch, such as “bracelet”, “wrist watch”, “clocks”, and “watchbands”.

Coming back to the Galaxy Note 3, a recent rumor suggested that Samsung might be testing three different sizes of the next-generation Note. The rumor was based on a document, which listed shipments of several Galaxy Note 3 models with screen sizes of 5.5, 5.7 and 5.99 inches.

Rumors also have it that the Galaxy Note 3 will sport the same design as the Galaxy S4 and will have a sleeker bezel and could sport a plastic frame.
