The latest Google Android-based smartphone made by Samsung will bring a serious challenge to Apple's venerable iPhone 4, and the upcoming iphone 5.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5mm and weighs only 116g, making it the slimmest and lightest smartphones available in the market. (Apple's iPhone weighs137g, the Google Nexus S is 129g)

It also features a 4.3 Super AMOLED plus capacitive touchscreen which can display 16M colors at 480x800 pixel resolution. It has 16GB internal memory and can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD cards. It has various options for Internet connections providing Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and 3G.

The camera will be an impressive 8MP camera, aka 1080p, with autofocus, LED flash, touch focus and face detection function along with 2 megapixel front-facing camera for video chatting.

Galaxy S2 is also equipped with dual core 1.2 GHz processor and 1 GB of Random-Access Memory with latest Android OS version 2.3 (Gingerbread).

The device is expected to hit shelves in the UK on May 1st, having originally been scheduled to arrive in March.
