Samsung Rugby Smart, which was unveiled Thursday by AT&T Wireless, with its rugged look and water-proof, shock-proof and dust-proof features, will add some serious dash of toughness in the Android smartphone lineup in the coming days.

The Samsung Rugby Smart is perfect for active customers who need another level of durability with their smartphone, said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Devices, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. It is water and dustproof and has all the features of a leading smartphone.

The USP of the phone is its durability, claims the Korean Electronics giant.

Rugby Smart is built in such as way that the phone is even sturdy enough to meet demanding military specifications and is rated IP67 for resistance to dust and water, and keeps working even after being dropped from 6.6 feet and can withstand temperatures from -60°F to +160°F.

The smartphone comes with a dimension of 122.4 x 65.9 x 12.19mm and weighs 119 grams and sports a 3.7 WVGA Super AMOLED display, TouchWiz version 3.0 user interface and 512MB of built-in memory that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card.

Samsung has provided a 5 mega pixel back camera, with 720p video capture capabilities and 1.3 MP front facing camera for video calling with its Rugby Smart. The camera will have additional features like autofocus, shot modes, action, cartoon, panorama, single, smile, smile shot, geo-tagging, editing modes, camcorder, HD recording and HD playback.

Rugby Smart will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will have 1.4GHz CPU. However, detailed information about the RAM is not available as of now.

Samsung packs a 1650mAh battery with its new smartphone. The battery is expected to give up to eight hours of talk time and 16 days of standby time.

It will also support 4G service, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth A2DP, AVRCP. Some additional features include corporate email and the full line of media including location, business communication, music and social networking services, security, device management, remote working and more.

The handset will be available exclusively on AT&T from March 4 for $99.99 with a two-year contract.
