As expected, Samsung has announced an Unpacked event for Aug. 13, where it is rumored the company will unveil the Galaxy Note 5 along with a flurry of other devices it hopes will help it compete against the next iPhone.

Samsung normally announces its Galaxy Note devices, which include screens typically larger than 5 inches, later in the year at the IFA electronics conference in Berlin, but over the past year, Apple has been crushing smartphone sales with its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices. Apple is expected to announce new iPhones in September. Samsung is hoping that by announcing the Galaxy Note 5 in August, it will be better positioned to compete against the iPhone.

The Galaxy Note 5 is expected to feature a 5.7-inch screen with high-definition resolution, according to reports. It is also expected to include a 16-megapixel rear camera and a stylus that automatically ejects.

Besides the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung also is expected to announce the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, which is a larger version of its Galaxy S6 Edge device that features a curved screen. The South Korean electronics giant probably will also announce a new version of the Samsung Gear VR virtual really headset that will work with the Galaxy Note 5. Samsung is holding the event at 10 a.m. EDT in New York City. The company usually live-streams its media events.
