A van plunged 100 feet over the side of an overpass on the Bronx River Parkway in New York on Sunday, with as many as seven people -- three of whom are children -- reportedly dead.

The accident happened a short distance from the Bronx Zoo at about 12:30 p.m., with the van striking the parkway's median before careening across the three lanes, jumping a guardrail and landing 100 feet in a wooded area near Morris Park Ave., according to the New York Times.

Officials reportedly closed the Parkway until the cause of the accident could be determined.
