This sure isn't as hyped as the $99 HP TouchPad sale, but Groupon is selling tablet computers, for a limited time, at heavily discounted prices: the Android Skypad Alpha Tablet for $129 and the Skytex Primer Pocket Tablet for $65.
The Groupon deal chops off 50 percent of the retail price on the tablets, as the Skypad is normally priced at $199 and the Primer Pocket at $129. So far, over 2,000 have been purchased, according to Groupon, which limits to two tablets per customer.
The Skypad Alpha is a 7-inch touchscreen tablet running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread featuring built-in a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 technology and 4 GB of internal storage, with the capability for an SD card addition. The deal includes a stand, stylus, cleaning cloth, earbuds, USB cable and USB power adapter.
The Skytex Primer Pocket is 4.3-inch multitouch LCD tablet running on Android 2.2 FroYo featuring built-in Wi-Fi and 4 GB of internal storage, with the capability for an SD card addition, along with earbuds, a USB cable and a USB power adapter.
The sale ends on Groupon on Oct. 21 and must be redeemed by Nov. 22 and ships within 10-14 days for a $5 fee so get yours before the limited time offer sells out, as this could be a cheap iPad alternative that you can grab easily before another HP TouchPad sale comes and goes.
Reviews for the Skypad Alpha seem to be quite favorable on Amazon.com, most people rating the tablet computer five-out-of-five stars.
This is definately worth the price paid for someone who can't afford an iPad or Laptop and has limited needs, Mommy of3 Miss Christy wrote.
I am really happy with my 'little friend'. It does it all and I recommend it to everyone I talk to, Amazon user angryamerican wrote.
Both devices run on older Android operating systems, but come November, you can upgrade to Google's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which is expected to be the greatest overhaul on the OS since Android 2.0
While you might get better deals if you wake up at the crack of dawn and door bust Best Buy on Black Friday, the Skypad Alpha seems like a cheap, efficient tablet computer and a steal for a little over $100!
