Samsung’s Galaxy S8 has only been out for a week now, and it’s already been hit with a red screen issue. Now, some Galaxy S8 owners are reporting that their units have been restarting by themselves.

Galaxy S8 owners have been reporting the issue on the XDA Developers forums as well as the Samsung US community page. There are some Galaxy S8 Plus users complaining about the same issue as well, as first reported by Android Authority.

“So I picked up my Galaxy s8 and everything seems to be working well except the phone keeps restarting itself,” the person who started the thread on the Samsung US community page said. “All of a sudden the app freezes, the screen shuts off, and a few seconds later it restarts.” The user also said it restarted seven times within 10 hours.

The thread on the Samsung US community page now has more than 100 replies, and people have been giving various solutions to the problem. The most common solution given out involves the microSD card.

Users who are experiencing this restart issue on their Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus units should try to remove their microSD cards to check if the problem persists. This is a possible temporary fix, but some are saying that the issue is still present even if they aren’t using a microSD card.

“My phone was locking up, restarting and constantly freezing until I took the microSD card out,” a user on the XDA Developers forum said. “Now it works great. My microSD was a Samsung brand.”

Samsung is currently addressing the reddish tint on the Galaxy S8’s display. IBT reports that Samsung has already issued a fix by giving users more freedom in adjusting the smartphone’s display color settings. The South Korean phone maker also said that this wasn’t caused by a hardware problem.

If this new restarting problem is being caused by a bug in the Galaxy S8’s software, then Samsung should be able to provide a fix for it through a software update.
