Filmmaker Spike Lee is planning to hold a fund-raising dinner for President Barack Obama in New York City on January 19.

According to the New York Post, the director of “Do the right thing” and “Malcolm X” and his wife Tanya Lewis Lee will arrange an”intimate” dinner at the Upper East Side townhouse for 60 guests who will pay $38,500 per head (or $71,600 per couple).

It is not clear who will be included in the apparently well-heeled guest list.

Spike Lee, who solidly endorsed Obama in the 2008 election, has also leveled criticism at the president, particularly with respect to his perceived sluggish response to the BP oil spill that devastated the Gulf coast.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, as long as one year ago, Lee said Obama might have a difficult struggle to get re-elected/

On the same day as the Spike Lee bash, Obama, who faces a very uphill battle to get re-elected, will also raise funds at the exclusive Daniel restaurant, also on the Upper East Side in an affair organized by Dr. Daniel E. Fass and Alexandra Stanton.
He will meet with Jewish leaders there. Guests will have to pay $25,000 to meet Obama and have their photo taken with the president.

A source told the Post: “Daniel has hosted so many fund-raisers for Obama; it has become New York’s official Democratic dining room.”
