Splatoon 2 was revealed through a trailer during January’s Nintendo Switch presentation, and the clip featured a brand new map. Following a recent Tumblr post, we now know a bit more about the pictured arena. It’s called Starfish Mainstage, and there’s some history attached to that name.

Here’s the post in its entirety:

This is Starfish Mainstage. It’s an outdoor music venue that hosts concerts for all types of music acts. The now legendary “Squid Squad” played here once, and it's considered a bit of a holy site for devotees of rock music. It’s a wonder that all the ink spray doesn’t cause the equipment to short circuit, but I guess they’ve got it figured out.

It’s hard to get a clear understanding of how the map will play based on pictures alone, but the details are interesting nonetheless. This is especially true considering we’ve got the map’s localized English name. In other words, this map title is the exact same one U.S. players will see this summer.

It also seems to carry on the recent themed tradition we’ve seen from Splatoon 2’s revealed maps thus far. Musselforge Fitness is designed to match a gym aesthetic, while Humpback Pumpback mirrors the outward look of a BMX track. Starfish, of course, takes players to a retro concert venue. The maps of Splatoon 2 essentially strive to give players varied places to battle while also expanding the wider universe in which these squid kids live.

Splatoon 2 just finished a Global Testfire at the end of March. The full game releases exclusively on Nintendo Switch this summer.
