Chyler Leigh as Alex, Floriana Lima as Maggie
Rumors that Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) are either engaged or married in “Supergirl” Season 3 premiere surfaced online after Leigh and Lima were recently spotted wearing matching rings while filming the show’s season opener in downtown Vancouver. The CW

“Supergirl” stars Chyler Leigh and Floriana Lima were spotted wearing matching rings while filming a scene for Season 3, episode 1 of the CW series.

In the photos shared by HollywoodNorth.buzz on Twitter, Leigh and Lima are seen wearing similar rings on their left fingers, leading fans to speculate that their characters, Alex and Maggie, are either already engaged or married in the show’s Season 3 premiere.

Alex asked Maggie to marry her at the end of the Season 2 finale, so it wouldn’t really be that surprising if the upcoming installment starts with the two being engaged or married.

Whether or not the couple, aka Sanvers, has actually reached a new milestone in their relationship, fans will still see less of the pair in Season 3 because Lima has decided to step down as a series regular for the next installment.

In a statement sent to TVLine last May, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed the reason Lima decided to be demoted from a series regular to a recurring cast member. “We adore Floriana and have loved working with her to tell this inspiring story [of Maggie and Alex’s romance],” Kreisberg said. “Although she’s not available to us as a series regular next season, as she’s looking to pursue other opportunities, we’re happy she’ll be returning for multiple episodes in Season 3.”

While it is unclear how Lima’s recurring status would ultimately affect the show’s Alex-Maggie storyline, Lima told People at the 28th GLAAD Media Awards ceremony last month that she’s “really humbled [and] very proud” of how significant Alex and Maggie’s relationship has become to viewers who are struggling with their sexuality.

In a tweet last May, Lima wrote that the best part of playing Maggie is “getting to share an inspiring love story and representing the LGBTQ+ community.” In a follow-up post, the actress revealed that her role as Maggie was only meant for one season, so she’s excited to continue being part of “Supergirl” even as a recurring guest star in Season 3.

“Supergirl” Season 3 will premiere on Monday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
