Fiona Apple took the stage at SXSW in Austin, Texas the other night to debut material from her forthcoming album set to release in June.

This is the first time Apple, 34 has been in the limelight since she went on hiatus in 2008. Apple's last album was released in 2005.

The singer was engaged and excited as she took the stage, even joking with the crowd.

You're imaginary right? she asked. You're not real!

She even attempted to dance onstage before throwing in the towel.

I tried to dance but lost my nerve, she said.

She was invited to play at the NPR showcase.

Apple's breakthrough hit was 'Criminal' released in 1998. Since then her career has been marked by highs and lows before her hiatus.

Can the singer make a comeback? Reviews for her SXSW show have been positive, but concert goers have remarked that her voice was strained in the beginning and end of her set.

Towards the end, Apple was repeatedly asking for tea before she gave a strained performance of her smash hit 'Criminal.'

Her performance at SXSW is the beginning of a mini tour she's conducting. While most of her shows are sold out, a show she's doing in New York is still available.
