Tom Cruise has “abandoned” his 79-year-old mother Mary Lee Mapother and was not present for a family boat trip on Mother’s Day, National Enquirer reported, according to Radar Online. The report added that Mapother moved from a Los Angeles assisted-living home to Clearwater, Florida, which is close to Scientology’s headquarters.

According to Radar Online, National Enquirer obtained photos earlier this month of Cruise’s mother wearing breathing tubes as she was helped from a car into a wheelchair during the trip. The outing was arranged by Cruise’s adopted son Connor. Cruise’s sister Marian Henry’s family, Mapother’s two nurses, and one of Connor’s friends had accompanied Mapother at the trip, the report said.

“It's stunning that someone who had been so close to his mother growing up could not be there for her when she's doing so poorly, especially on Mother’s Day,” a source told National Enquirer, according to Radar Online.

Last month, it was reported that 53-year-old Cruise was planning to relocate to the 100-acre Scientology headquarters in London to expand the religion. Renovations for the property were reported to be worth $16 million.

Cruise’s connection to Scientology had reportedly caused a rift between him and Katie Holmes, following which the two divorced. Holmes also reportedly feared she would lose their daughter Suri to Scientology because of which she separated from Cruise.
