Search giant Google said, Monday, it has bought Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion, an announcement that shook up the technology industry and caught rivals napping.

The acquisition, Google's largest ever (the previous largest acquisition was purchase of DoubleClick for $3.1 billion in 2007), has taken the Wall Street by surprise and currently a big debate is raging on whether Google made the right move by buying Motorola at 63 percent premium. While some feel that Google bought Motorola in a moment of irrational panic and the company's biggest acquisition to date spells doom for the search giant, others feel the move is nothing short of pure genius as it will help Google bridge the gap between itself and its bigger rival Apple.
