  • Arsenal will make an effort to sign Emiliano Buendia
  • Buendia has been asked to remain loyal to Norwich City
  • The Argentine is ready to leave Norwich City, depending on the offer

Arsenal target Emiliano Buendia has been advised to reject a proposal to move to the famous Emirates Stadium and stay with Norwich City at least until the end of the season by former Canaries striker Chris Sutton.

Signing a midfielder who could create opportunities on the field is Arsenal's first order of business in the ongoing January transfer window, and Buendia is said to be on top of Mikel Arteta’s priority list.

Arsenal has been tracking the Argentine midfielder since last summer, and reports claim that the club has held initial talks with the player’s agent about a potential switch to North London.

Norwich City is reluctant to part ways with their top star but will not stand in his way if the right offer comes in.

The Canaries are currently atop the English Championship, with Buendia playing a pivotal role that saw him haul seven goals and seven assists thus far.

Norwich City is expected to demand at least $54 million for the midfielder, which Arsenal is looking to offset by reportedly offering a player-plus-cash deal.

Sutton, who made 105 appearances for Norwich City, believes Buendia should repay the unwavering loyalty shown by the Canaries and help them gain promotion back to the English Premier League.

“I would think the fact that Norwich showed great loyalty and faith in him [would convince him to stay],” he told BBC Radio 5Live, as quoted on TeamTalk. “I think he was playing in a Spanish second division team. They have made him.”

“They have turned him into the player and given him the profile which he has now," he continued. "All I have to say is that he has to see this season through. He owes it to Norwich City. If I was in his shoes, I would see it through. I would get Norwich back to the Premier League then I would say, ‘Thank you very much, Norwich City, you have been great for me and I have been great for you.'"

Meanwhile, James Benge of CBS Sports reported that Buendia is most likely going to affix his signature on the dotted line with Arsenal.
