  • Mikel Arteta seeks to sign Emiliano Buendia in the January transfer window
  • Arsenal is now in talks with Norwich City for Buendia
  • Arsenal looks to get a discount on the $54 million valuation with a player-plus-cash deal

Creativity in the midfield has been a cause of concern for Arsenal, and head coach Mikel Arteta is eager to address it by making a move for Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia.

Several outlets have reported that two clubs are holding talks about the potential transfer of Emiliano to Arsenal, indicating a potential player-plus-cash deal.

The Gunners were languishing at the No. 15 spot in the team standings, having gone seven English Premier League outings without a win.

Many pundits attributed the Arteta-mentored brigade's losing strife to their lapses in the middle, failing to create chances that their counterparts eventually capitalized on throughout the first part of the season.

However, this has changed after the 38-year-old manager introduced Emile Smith-Rowe into the rotation

The North London-based outfit is now riding high on a three-game winning streak and has managed to score eight goals in that span. Despite the newfound creativity, Arteta is keen to bring in another attacking midfielder in the form of Buendia to ease the burden on the young Englishman.

Arsenal has a lot of convincing to do for Norwich City, the current No. 1-seeded squad in the English Champion, to let go of Buendia midway through the campaign.

According to the Independent, the Canaries are said to have set a $54.3 million price tag, a fee that is certain to be well beyond Arsenal’s reach.

The report also claims that the Gunners are willing to offer players such as Joe Willock or Reiss Nelson as part of the deal in order to offset the hefty release clause.

Buendia’s agent has reportedly sat down with the top brass of Arsenal to know more about the offer, but seeing the Argentine in the Gunners uniform seems to be up in the air at the moment after Norwich manager Daniel Farke made a comment on the rumors after their 1-0 win over Barnsley on Saturday.

“Emi is a key player for us, an important member of the group, and he is totally committed to us,” Farke stated. “He is our player and will continue to be our player. He is on a long-term contract so we keep him.”

"Everyone knows his qualities-I don’t expect interest just because he scored a wondergoal today. People know what he can do."
