The late Venezuelan Hugo Chavez’s funeral is scheduled for Friday and will be attended by a host of leaders throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
Heads of state and Chavez’s former socialist allies Raul Castro of Cuba, Evo Morales of Bolivia and Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua will be in attendance, as will the presidents of Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.
Outside of the region, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko will also pay tribute to their departed comrade.
Absent from the ceremonies will be the leaders of China and Russia, countries that enjoyed friendly ties with Venezuela under Chavez’s 14-year presidency.
