We’ve got a theory that some “Vampire Diaries” fans – specifically Stefan lovers – might not like. With one episode remaining before the Season 5 finale of the hit CW series, we’ve got a bad feeling coming on about the fan favorite.
Thanks to spoilers and the synopsis for the final two episodes, the latest theory in “The Vampire Diaries” fandom is that Stefan is going to die.
We know, we know … Say it ain’t so! But unfortunately there is a pile of evidence stacking up against the youngest Salvatore.
Liv and Luke’s Plan in Episode 21
At the end of episode 20, the doppelgangers were kidnapped by the Travelers so they could use their blood for Markos’ magic ending ritual. Fortunately Elena and Stefan will escape from Markos and his clan in episode 21, but that doesn’t mean that they are out of harm’s way. Thanks to the leaked synopsis and promo video for “Promised Land,” the pair will have more enemies chasing them down – Liv and Luke.
With the Travelers threatening to end all magic, the witch siblings realize that they need a new strategy to prevent that from happening. And when they fail to protect the doppelgangers, they decide that the next step is to simply kill them.
The episode 21 promo video reveals that Liv and Luke will use magic to crush the pickup truck that Stefan and Elena are driving. But as “Vampire Diaries” fans know, it’ll take a lot more than a car accident to kill the supernatural duo. And that means the witches must have something up their sleeves.
“I’m sorry, but one of you needs to die,” Liv says to Elena as Stefan watches.
Since Liv can be seen using magic on Elena, it looks like she’ll be her target. But we doubt Stefan would sit by idly and watch. One theory is that Stefan will sacrifice himself to Liv in order to save Elena’s life.
The Grim Reaper
The Mystic Falls crew has had their lives threatened over and over again. I mean, just last week Enzo was going to kill Stefan and Damon. So, why should fans take Liv and Luke’s threat seriously? Because a character death in episode 21 is confirmed.
TV Guide revealed that Elena and Stefan will receive a “harsh reality check when the Grim Reaper does come knocking for someone by the end of the episode.” As for those non-believers speculating that the death occurring will be Luke or Liv’s? The site continued that “if the other side can’t be save, a series regular may never come back.”
The Episode 22, Season Finale Synopsis
To put another nail in Stefan’s coffin, the Salvatore brother is noticeably missing from the Season finale, episode 22 synopsis. The absence of his name from the episode description could be nothing, but Damon will reportedly be left “heartbroken by an unexpected tragedy,” and Caroline will get emotional by an off-hand remark Liv makes about Stefan.
The Verdict: Start stocking up on those tissues now.
Episode 21 of "The Vampire Diaries" will air on The CW on Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT. The Season 5 finale will air on May 15 at 8 p.m. EDT.
