Vampire Diaries
Markos will turn to violence in the Season 5 finale of "The Vampire Diaries." CW

Say it ain’t so! Season 5 of “The Vampire Diaries” is coming to an end. After May 15, fans of the CW series will have a long and painful couple of months hiatus until the Mystic Falls crew returns. But don’t get too upset, as the season finale is going to be mind-blowing.

This season Elena, Damon, Stefan and the rest of the gang have encountered their fair share of battles. Between Silas, Evil Dr. Wes, Enzo’s humanity switch meltdown and the Travelers, freshman year hasn’t been easy. They’ve been forced to say goodbye (and welcome back) to a handful of loved ones, and unfortunately it sounds like bloodshed and chaos is done.

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!]

According to the leaked synopsis for episode 22, Damon will be left “heartbroken by an unexpected tragedy.” Could that be referring to Stefan’s secret about Enzo’s death? Or should fans expect more lives lost before the finale?

The eldest Salvatore will be forced to hold himself together while still dealing with the drama around town -- like the disintegration of the Other Side. Damon will push Bonnie to find a way to stop the Other Side from crumbling, and Bonnie will take that opportunity to “settle an old score.”

But Elena has her own plan to save her friends from the fallout of the Other Side. The normally sweet and collective Elena will channel her inner bad girl and demand that Liv and Luke help her. But Liv doesn’t agree to lift a thumb until “Caroline provides her with some personal motivation.” Liv gets her revenge though when she makes an off-hand remark about Stefan, leading Caroline to give a “surprisingly emotional response.”

We’re not sure what could have happened to make Caroline get emotional over Stefan … but we’re going to assume it’s not good.

Meanwhile, Markos and the Travelers will be turning to violence to prove that they have control over Mystic Falls … which is bad news for Tyler. Despite harboring a Traveler passenger inside him, Markos will use violence against the hybrid. And that violence is so bad that even Sheriff Forbes is horrified.

Fortunately Sheriff Forbes will have gained new information on the Travelers, and that info helps Damon, Matt and Jeremy (or the Hardy boys as Damon calls them) come up with a plan “that relies on split-second timing.”

But what is that mysterious plan? It involves a massive explosion in Mystic Falls. “Everyone is caught up in the confusion,” teases the synopsis. “Leaving a trail of heroism, sacrifice, relief and despair.”

The Season 5 finale of “The Vampire Diaries” will air on The CW on May 15 at 8 p.m. EDT. What do you think will happen in episode 22, “Home”? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
