Family bonding is always tense on “The Vampire Diaries.” Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will have to spend time with his mother Lily (Annie Wersching), but that doesn’t mean he has to tell her the truth. A new sneak peek video for Season 6, episode 18, shows him lying to his mother, but Caroline's (Candice Accola) new habit of killing people may have cut the awkward breakfast short.

Sneak Peek No. 1

Lily makes breakfast for Damon and Elena and says it used to be Damon’s favorite. He says it doesn’t taste the way he remembers it, and Lily blames it on his vampirism. “Well, you were human the last time you tasted it. Our tastes change over time,” she explains.

The Salvatore matriarch doesn’t take Damon’s comment personally and changes the subject. She asks Elena about turning into a vampire and if she ever misses being human.

“Sometimes,” Elena says. She looks uncomfortable, so Damon silently gestures to his mother that she should drop the humanity subject.

Lily has more important plans anyway. She wants to get her friends back from the prison world. She asks about the ascendant, and Damon tries to blow her off when he claims that it’s hidden safely. Plus, they’ll need a “celestial event.”

“We’ll have to do some digging, yeah,” Damon explains. “Be patient. They take time. They’re very rare.” Damon has no intention of digging, though. He told Bonnie (Kat Graham) that they were never going back.

Conveniently, Lily has already done her research. She found out that there is a meteor shower in two weeks. Lily says she took Damon’s advice and learned how to use Stefan’s computer. Luckily, Elena provides an abrupt end to the conversation. Jo texted her to say someone is killing people at Whitmore.

“Let me guess: One of them’s blonde, one of them’s turning people into human Pez dispensers,” Damon says.

Sneak Peek No. 2

Caroline is still without her humanity, so she could easily be the one killing people. But it looks like the people she wants to kill most are her friends. She decides to hold Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) hostage to play “Caroline Trivia.”

“You both dated me, which means you should know everything about me,” Caroline explains. “So I’m going to ask you some questions about myself, and whoever gets them right lives.”

“You’re sick,” Matt says.

Tyler knows her birthday and Matt knows that she doesn’t have a favorite color. But the tie-breaker is the real problem. “What was my mom’s final memory before she died?” Caroline asks.

Neither of them knows, but Caroline is sure she mentioned it. Their answers will determine which one of them lives.

Sneak Peek No. 3

Enzo (Michael Malarkey) will meet up with Sarah (Tristin Mays) again, and he’ll explain everything — though it won’t make much sense to her. In the clip, Sarah asks why Enzo knows about her family yet she doesn’t know anything.

“Because your Uncle Stefan compelled you to forget to keep you secret from your other uncle, Damon, after he killed your parents,” Enzo explains. “And you would’ve shared their fate had it not been for your other uncle.”

Sarah logically figured that they were going to go to Stefan, but Enzo explains that Stefan lost his humanity (though he doesn’t explain it very well). “The good brother recently went bad, and I was hoping to leave you in the care of bad brother, who actually now is less bad than the good brother,” he says.

Even though Sarah doesn’t understand, Enzo knows he can’t be any clearer. He instead says something about a woman they saw. “You wanted to know who that woman is. She’s the most dreadful person I’ve ever met,” Enzo tells her.

He might be referring to Lily. As previously reported, the two have a shared history that’ll be explored in episode 18.
