Arsenal and Chelsea played a wild one at the Bridge, as defending was barely noticeable.

The Gunners, who at times seem snake-bitten, went on a scoring spree in a 5-3 victory over their London rival at Stamford Bridge, and received a hat trick from Robin van Persie.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard got the scoring started in the 14th minute with a header goal off the clever assist by playmaker Juan Mata.

In the 36th minute, Aaron Ramsey gave an excellent through ball to winger Gervinho, who unselfishly found van Persie, and the striker scored on the well-executed sequence.

Just before halftime, Lampard's corner kick led to John Terry, who has had to deflect allegations of racism recently, flicking the ball into the goal off some questionable marking.

In the second half, Chelsea's defense left a great deal of space for defender Andre Santos to race up the left side, and drill his first goal as a Gunner to even the match.

Just minutes later, winger Theo Walcott was tripped up, and then regained his balance, and then split Chelsea's defenders for a fantastic right-footed goal.

In the 81st minute, Mata ripped a gorgeous curling left-footed shot that Wojciech Szczesny had no chance to save, and may have been slightly deflected by a sliding Alex Song. The play started when Santos appeared to be fouled by Romelu Lukaku, but there was no whistle.

Just three minutes later, substitute Florent Malouda gave a poor back pass to Terry, who slipped and let the ball go by him. The result was an uncontested second goal, and another easy one, by van Persie.

Chelsea entered the game knowing that they needed to contain the Dutch striker, but simply couldn't.

It was that kind of match for goalkeeper Petr Cech. The veteran goalkeeper was overwhelmed by an unyielding attack by the Gunners.

Cech was victimized by van Persie's final goal, to complete the hat trick, when Arsenal had a break, and van Persie unleashed a left-footed ball that hit Cech's hand but went into the goal in stoppage time.

A player of note was Ramsey. The Welsh star played with a great deal of confidence and gave the Gunner multiple chances to score.

Arsenal desperately needed an emotional lift after major struggles on the road in the Premier League, and they got it.
