Once again, Barcelona got the best of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, 2-1, to take the advantage in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-finals, on Wednesday.

Cristiano Ronaldo got the scoring started in the 11th minute, as the forward broke his scoring drought by ripping a shot at Jose Pinto, and the goalkeeper probably should have blocked the shot.

The score stayed 1-0 at halftime, though Barcelona was the more active squad, as Real Madrid only had one shot on goal.

Barcelona would come right back to even the match with a header off a corner by Carles Puyol. It was an impressive goal by the centre back who found a way to evade defender Pepe.

In the 77th minute, Lionel Messi found Eric Abidal in the box, and the full back took advantage of one of his rare goal-scoring opportunities to find the back of the net. Real Madrid defenders pleaded for an off-sides call, but Abidal was legal on the replay.

Barcelona controlled possession, and had several chances to score. Real Madrid was not quite as agressive as one might expect following a La Liga loss to Barcelona in December.

The second leg will be at Camp Nou on Jan. 25.
