Real Madrid failed to hold off Malaga in the dying moments of Sunday's match at Santiago Bernabeu, as Los Galacticos had to to settle for a draw, 1-1.

Jose Mourinho's squad had several opportunities to extend their lead but simply came up short. The home side received a first-half goal when Cristiano Ronaldo's cross found Karim Benzema, who headed the ball into the net.

Los Galacticos would have more chances to score, like when Ronaldo had a clear path for a goal, but had his shot blocked by goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero.

However, Malaga stuck around in the match, and pressured Iker Casillas. In stoppage time, Malaga finally found the back of the net with a curling free-kick strike from forward Santi Cazorla.

Real Madrid took 18 shots with six on goal, while Malaga took five shots, with two on target. Malaga controlled possession for 53 percent of the match.

With Barcelona's win on Saturday, Real Madrid are now eight points ahead of their rival in La Liga.
