Two women were shot at a university campus housed inside a Virginia mall Friday, and police have arrested a suspect.

Becky Wilburn, city spokeswoman for Christianburg, Va., said officials received a 911 call around 2 p.m. EDT Friday about shots fired and a person with a gun at the New River Community College campus in the New River Valley Mall near Blacksburg, Va., the Associated Press reported.

One of the women who was shot was airlifted, while the other was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, Wilburn told CNN.

The shooting prompted New River Community College to close its Dublin, Va., and mall campuses, the school posted on its Facebook page.

“Effective immediately, NRCC is closed at both the Dublin and New River Valley Mall locations today (4/12/13),” the message read.

Reports did not give the gender of the suspected shooter in custody.
