Wonder Woman
Gal Gadot was extremely touched when her daughter, Alma, said she was proud of her mother for playing Wonder Woman. Warner Bros.

It was pretty daunting, albeit exciting, for Gal Gadot to play the superhero, Diana Prince, in the DC film “Wonder Woman.” Gadot said she has never starred in her own standalone film, so she was really eager for it to do well.

When the first set of reviews came, Gadot said she was at home and had to put her six-year-old daughter, Alma, to sleep. “And of course that night she was very much awake. I said, ‘Okay. I’m going to bring my computer and sit next to you until you fall asleep,’” Gadot shared with Entertainment Weekly.

After reading the reviews, Gadot got so overwhelmed by the positive feedback that she called director Patty Jenkins. “And the moment I called Patty she answered the phone — it didn’t even ring. She immediately picks up. She’s all, ‘What’s going on? I’ve been meditating for 20 minutes, not reading anything, literally waiting for you to call me,’” Gadot recalled. She told Jenkins, “It’s unbelievably amazing! I can’t believe this is happening to us right now!”

She was then screaming out of excitement, which got her daughter excited as well. “My daughter asked me, ‘What’s happening, mama?’ I told her: ‘People are liking the movie. See, if you work hard enough and you have good intentions sometimes in life people appreciate it.’”

Then Alma did the sweetest thing. She jumped alongside her mother with teary eyes and said, “I’m proud of you mommy!”

For Gadot, that was the best part of her year. “That was a moment I’ll never forget as a parent and a mother. It was a very special thing,” she said.

It was not easy for Gadot to get to the top. In fact, before she landed the role of Wonder Woman, the Israeli-born actress confessed that she almost quit acting.

“I reached a place where I didn’t want to do that anymore,” Gadot told Glamour. “My husband has a lot of work in Tel Aviv, and we had a daughter, so taking them to LA to fish for work put a lot of pressure on me. I was like, ‘Why am I doing this?’ Hearing no, over and over, I was thinking, ‘What am I good for?’”

Thankfully, Gadot got her big break before she fully gave up and considered a career as a lawyer.

She will be reprising her role as the superhero in “Wonder Woman 2,” which is slated for release on Nov. 1, 2019.
